Beef with Language and Typing Styles

This is a post about a trend on Tumblr dot com, a blue occasional hellscape. Specifically, it’s about a stylistic trend I’ve noticed in typed styles that I started to articulate and then didn’t feel like doing further via my phone. So, here it is now.

For the most part, the kind of uwu-typical language pattern of Tumblr has mostly faded away, but where it hasn’t is mainly in the punctuation associated with that kind of style of typing. Namely, we still see it particularly affected in this kind of order: fragment/question mark(s)/dependent clause. Sometimes the question marks can be substituted with ellipses that have extra periods. In either case, I have an issue with it.

Some might argue that it’s supposed to resemble actual talking patterns, but I feel as though this is not quite correct. If anything, it’s an affectation that many Tumblr users take especially when they’re being condescending. It harks back to the uwu. Something about it makes me feel suspicious of intentions.
